EATSET Biotechnology Seminar/Transfusion Workshop (4)
-----------------------------------------------------
Dear Patricia,
The EATSET certainly is an improvement on the crude technique de-
scribed by you. The EATSET does not use wall pressure. It works on
very low vacuum and so very little and no trauma is caused to the
cellular component of blood. However, it is a closed system and to-
tally sterile. It is readily available and you do not have to spend
time building up an improvised 'home made kit' requiring the use of
bottles, sterile gauze, steel bowl and glass funnels, all of which
provide exposed surfaces for collection and filtering unlike the
EATSET which is a totally closed system. The EATSET however does not
require further anticoagulation in cases described except when bleed-
ing is fresh. We have also described a model for use in elective sur-
gery which requires anticoagulation.
Thanks,
Dr. O.O. Ovadje
