International HIV/AIDS Treatment Education and Advocacy Summit (2)
------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Colleagues,
Thank you for the information and the invitation to the Summit. My
worry and concern is on the word "TREATMENT". Do we give hopes that
we can now treat HIV/AIDS? The way it will be interpreted will mean
there is no difference with the messages we get from our Traditional
Healers who claim to CURE AND TREAT HIV/AIDS. I would rather resort
to the word "MANAGEMENT" and/or "PALLIATIVE TREATMENT" of HIV/AIDS
complications and other opportunistic infections.
A person with HIV and having Tuberculosis in some circles is regarded
as having AIDS. We can treat the Tuberculosis but we cannot - and I
repeat - we cannot treat HIV/AIDS. In most cases where there is spe-
cific disease like Malaria and/or Typhoid then I can use the word
treatment, in the sense that the cure is known and is available. I am
not after semantics but concerning the word 'treatment' with regard
to HIV/AIDS I beg to submit for clarification and understanding.
