Dr. Alex Opio Uganda's Assistant Commissioner on the National Disease
Control Program and also a member on the Global Fund Implementation
committee said the Fund recently approved the application of US$ 52
million specifically targeted for HIV/AIDS work.
"I cannot guarantee the time when the money will be released but I

Uganda had initially applied for US$ 98 million US for a 3-year Stra-

"So far only HIV has been approved," Opio said.
The components of the implementation plan will primarily target the
areas of prevention, care and support and capacity building.
"We want to consolidate on aspects like Information, Education and

Antiretroviral therapy and develop capacity of health workers."
Meanwhile, Uganda is already benefiting from a US$ 40 million grant
through the Multi Country AIDS project, which is now in its 2nd year
