LEGAL STATUS OF WIDOW-CARE, INC.
Inaugurated in the year 1995, Recognized and Registered with Ebonyi
State Welfare Council and Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) Abuja, Ni-
geria.
OBJECTIVES
* To provide support to orphans and the physically handicapped.
* To fight every oppression of widows and orphans through the Family
Law Centre.
* To alleviate the negative effect of widowhood on widows and their un-
der aged children.
* To reduced poverty among widows.
* To empower widows Economically and Politically.
* To create employment opportunities for widows.
* To eradicate harmful traditional practices against widows.
* To heighten awareness about the risk of HIV infection/AIDS/STD.
* To strengthen AIDS prevention activities and programmes at all levels
of society.
* To promote respect and care for all HIV infected people and people
with AIDS.
* To highlight the impact of HIV/AIDS around the rural communities of
Ebonyi State.
STRATEGIES
* Research & documentation on issues affecting Widows.
* Seminars & Workshops.
* Skill development.
* Micro credit scheme.
* Social mobilization & policy advocacy.
* Establishment of a paralegal unit known as Family Law Center.
* School Evangelism outreach Programme.
* Primary Health Care.

* Revenue generated through Skill Development Training.

Widow-Care is working in collaboration with:
* AIDS Control & Prevention Project, Lagos.
* Africare: an NGO based in California, USA.
* United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
MILESTONE
* Money.
* Office equipment.
ACHIEVEMENT
* Micro financing of Widows business Enterprises.
* Creation of employment opportunities for over one thousand widows and
their children and other less privileged rural women.
* Provision of skills in weaving, Shoe making, Knitting, making of tri-
cycles, weaving Chairs, Ashoke etc.
* Established Scholarship for the widow?s under aged children.
* Provided job opportunities for the disabled by Training.
* Liberating oppressed widows and other woman, securing bill abolishing
harmful traditional practices (e.g. Female Circumcision, killing of
twins etc.).
MEMBERSHIP
Membership of Widow-Care is open to widows, women and all who are
willing to work for the upliftment of the life of widows and their un-
der aged children.
