GTZ BACKUP Initiative

Building Alliances - Creating Knowledge - Updating Partners in the 
fight against HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria

The purpose of the GTZ BACKUP Initiative is to support countries to 
progressively exploit the opportunities provided through global fund-
ing mechanisms such as the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis 
and Malaria, the Multi-Country HIV/AIDS Program of the Worldbank etc. 
The GTZ BACKUP Initiative started in September 2002 and comprises a 
multilateral component - financial and personnel support to UNAIDS, 
WHO and ILO - as well as a bilateral component which is facilitated 
through the GTZ offices worldwide.
