HIV/AIDS and The Care Economy
-----------------------------

Dear Simel Esim,

An interesting subject.

I hope you will be able to throw some light onto the big issue of "where
does the money go". My impression is that more money is spent in the
NORTH's AIDS "study" economy and the AIDS "workshop" economy and the AIDS
"conference" economy than on the AIDS "care" economy.

My educated guess is that probably something in the range of 60% to 80% of
the funding contributed by the NORTH is used in the study / workshop /
conference mode.

Sadly it is very difficult to get good numbers about the fund flows in de-
velopment, including the funding for AIDS initiatives.

One day I hope it will be possible to use an easily accessible database of
information to get these answers, but more important, the help get the
funding to where it can do the most good.
