Worldwide, reproductive morbidity is an issue that remains poorly un-
derstood despite great awareness of its adverse consequences on the
health and livelihoods of women and communities. Studies that have
focused on causes of maternal death indicate that the magnitude of
reproductive morbidity is often underestimated with a much greater
number of women suffering than previously believed. Given the scar-
city of information in both measuring and understanding reproductive
morbidity, this research study was undertaken.

The primary objective of the study was to obtain information and
proxy indicators on the prevalence of reproductive morbidity in Far-
Western Nepal. In efforts to learn more about the complex nature of
reproductive morbidity, this study investigated and documents some of
the social and physical conditions that are contributing to such re-
productive illness, with special attention given to pelvic organ
prolapse.

This research draws attention to the needs of women in regards to
maintaining optimal reproductive health and its findings serve as a
valuable tool in the development of future strategies to lessen re-
productive morbidity.
