"Living well with HIV/AIDS" (5)
-------------------------------

I hope I am not being misunderstood. I appreciate the efforts of nu-
tritionists to develop nutrition guidelines for people living with
HIV/AIDS. Many clinicians including me have in the past given such
well written guidelines to patients living with HIV/AIDS or PCM. It
turns out that what we refer to as 'affordable' in many guidelines is
very much out of reach for most people and they end up taking what
they can afford. Social circumstances and poverty tend to override
written guidelines and that is what I am trying to make nutritionists
/health economists aware.

I would be quite happy as a researcher to be given references from
studies that have shown clinical improvement or better prognosis for
people living with HIV/AIDS who have been following such guidelines.
It will then be easier to prescribe them.

Thanks,
Dr I N Mwangi
