Offer to assist in HIV/AIDS Education
-------------------------------------
Dear Friends,
Hello and please see below the request for work in the HIV/AIDS field
by Steve Garrett and Ingrid Garrett-Kloet, friends and ActALIVE coa-
lition members who are amazing people and true dynamos with regard to
their activities, dedication, and caring on all subjects related to
HIV/AIDS. Both are HIV+, and have started or become involved with or-
ganizations like Planet Poz and GNP+ (Global Network of People Living
with HIV/AIDS).
Two things which especially catch my eye in Steve's resume are con-
struction/building and the arts, and I am passing this along to the
folks at the OneVillage Foundation, whose director -- Joy Tang, an
artist and storyteller -- recently posted about the establishment of
eco-villages for orphans and adults. This might be a great conjunc-
tion of skills and interests, Steve, so hope you will contact Joy at
<joy@onevillage.biz>. Also, you should check out Greenstar, a solar-
energy organization which builds community centers and engages in
sustainable-development activities (including use of the arts!)
worldwide. They are at http://www.greenstar.org.
Ingrid has worked extensively with women and has attended and spoken
at numerous events and conferences. She is an arts advocate and edu-
cator, and was featured this past year on a German educational poster
about living with HIV/AIDS. Please contact them at <tagg24@spinn.net>
if anyone has a work-related post to offer them! They are both in-
credible people, full of life, love, and hope, and anyone who employs
them would be very lucky to have them on their team.
With greatest thanks and all best wishes,
Janet Feldman

My name is Steve Garrett. I am 52 years old and still feel relatively
healthy. My wife is Ingrid Garrett-Kloet. We are both People Living
with AIDS but that doesn't slow us down. I am a US citizen, Native
and Anglo and my wife is from the Netherlands. I have lived outside
the United States most of my life and enjoy meeting the different
cultures of the world.
We are looking for work in the AIDS field teaching, helping or build-
ing, whatever needs there are!
I know some can't open attachments so I will paste my resume at the
end. Currently we are both living in the Albuquerque, New Mexico USA.
Four years ago I came back to this community from Central America and
got involved with the HIV/AIDS positive people. I saw what their
health system looked like and what the health care they had could do
for them. We met, discussed, and came up with things that could be
changed to make their lives better.
I formed a Non Profit Organization http://www.planetpoz.org. It was
my first experience with all the paperwork it takes for a non-profit
organization but I got through it all in a very short amount of time.
So I now have skills working through governmental paperwork. Now we
are busy for the last few years doing research and development of the
most current data of HIV/AIDS around the globe, Client Advocacy, Hu-
man Rights, Stigma and Discrimination. I believe that Education about
HIV/AIDS by people living with the virus has the most impact on the
public's opinion. Through speaking, empowerment, arts, and generally
lending a hand we will prevail.
We are in close contact with our local Governmental Offices working
to improve the quality of Health Care for all people. My background
has always been in believing in myself and thinking there was nothing
I could not do. I had two mentors in my life that taught me this.
They taught me that all of us have this talent and the ways to open
the eyes of others to this concept. This technique has been espe-
cially useful in speaking with people at high risk, youth, and people
from under-developed countries.
Currently I am working in construction to support this effort but
would much rather put my energy to work in the AIDS field. I know
construction both residential and industrial thoroughly, and could
teach it to others throughout the world. I have designed and built
projects all around the globe. I am getting older and have basically
come out of retirement for HIV/AIDS, and don't think the construction
work I'm doing is good for my health but like so many we have no
funding and it has to come from somewhere so I am basically support-
ing my family and our organization by myself.
As you will see in my resume I have done many different things in my
life. Most of it was devoted to making the lives of others better. My
wife and I don't need much to be happy in life and are willing to
travel to where we are needed. That gets to the point of this cover
letter. We are looking for some place we feel our efforts are appre-
ciated and needed. Now more than ever we need to put all our re-
sources, energy, and ideas together to become the largest force that
the world has ever seen. We as People Living with HIV/AIDS have to
speak out for ourselves.
