HIV/AIDS documents from Kaiser Family Foundation and NASTAD

Dear colleagues:
 
Latinos in the United States have been disproportionately affected by 
the HIV/AIDS epidemic. They account for a greater proportion of new 
HIV infections and AIDS cases than their representation in the U.S. 
population overall. Although Latinos represent approximately 14% of 
the U.S. population, they account for almost one fifth (19%) of the 
40,000 new HIV infections estimated to occur in the U.S. each year. 
 
As part of the Kaiser Family Foundation's ongoing effort to raise 
awareness about critical issues related to HIV/AIDS, we are co-
hosting a Capitol Hill briefing with the National Alliance of State 
and Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD) on Latinos and HIV/AIDS. 
Joining us at the briefing will be Representatives Hilda Solis (D-
CA), Ciro Rodriquez (D-TX), and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL).
 
At the briefing, facts on the impact of the epidemic will be pre-
sented, based on a new chartbook and fact sheet being released by the 
Kaiser Family Foundation. In addition, NASTAD will discuss its new 
report "Addressing HIV/AIDS...Latinos Perspectives and Policy Recom-
mendation." This document provides recommendations on how to develop 
programs and policies to effectively address the AIDS epidemic among 
Latinos.
