Africa's political leaders facilitate brain drain... (2)
--------------------------------------------------------

Thank you for this discussion.

I read the article from the Sunday Vision. Personally, I would
not interpret it as 'facilitating brain drain of health profes-
sionals'. I think it is very important to understand the politi-
cal history of our country Uganda.

First and foremost, the context in which the President explained
his defence was not attacking doctors neither disregarding their
input. I understood it to mean that it is quite absurd that pro-
fessionalism has been mixed with politics. In Uganda, it is to
that extent.

I would recommend that before someone reacts to this issue,
kindly first understand where Uganda has come from, where it is
now and what is actually happening. I think it is the reality.
For instance, when a patient is treated in a hospital, he/she
feels should give something to the medical practitioner with a
bias that may be he/she would have been attended to in a better
way!

The President's family has a dot of a percentage of people that
can be treated by Ugandan doctors which I wouldn't look at as
something that can cause brain drain, much as people of the same
interpretation may refuse to seek for health care from them.

In conclusion, I think according to the President's explanation,
he was right to act the way he did. If an enemy fails to get you,
he can use all possible corners to attack you. Someone affecting
your child would have actually 'killed' you! Parents may under-
stand this better.
