WHO Warns Vatican on Condom Advice (6)
--------------------------------------

Dear all,

I think religious leaders need to reconsider and be honest!

On my facilitation for awareness raising session, the message is
clear. As far as sexual transmission is concerned, Abstinence is
the best. When this fails, then Faithful (does not mean one at a
time, but one to one when they are both negative) and if 1 & 2
cant be accomplished then Safer sex including condoms.

We must agree that faith is a key and can shield the body from
many things. The problem that religious do not want to acknowl-
edge is that even among themselves (priest and nuns) are dying.
We know priest who have wives and children, nuns who get preg-
nant, to make things worse, some of us who studied with nuns we
know a lot.

This reminds me of a case - that I often tell participants - of a
woman who had extramarital relationship with one of the profes-
sors in the country and later she discovered she was HIV posi-
tive. When she disclosed the status, she was expelled. When she
told the story to one bishop, he said I will help you. She became
his second wife, so called "Nyumba ndogo" in Swahili. She in-
sisted of using condoms and this man said it was a sin. One would
ask is extramarital not a sin?

Indeed we need to come to our senses and really see what is hap-
pening. I quite agree that sex is not for procreation but for
many purposes. In this regards I think the teaching should remain
in three choices mentioned above.

However life skills are paramount for people to think before they
act that is one challenge might have many choices and many conse-
quences.
