Practising just medicine in an unjust world
--------------------------------------------

In an editorial piece in the British Medical Journal, (BMJ
2003;327:1000-1001, 1 November), Dr. Zulfiqar Bhutta of Pakistan
calls attention to the well known issues militating against the
just practice of evidence-driven medicine in developing countries
and concludes (with few 'new' and specific funding appropria-
tions/policy proposals advanced for local policy makers) that
"the most sustainable initiatives to improve academic medicine
and clinical research in developing countries must come from
within."
