Global Connections Healthcare Mission Forum/Africa Forum 2003
-------------------------------------------------------------
November 26, 2003
Partnership House, Waterloo Road, London, United Kingdom
"The Future of Healthcare Mission in Sub-Saharan Africa"
This will be the third annual Global Connections Forum on Chris-
tian mission and healthcare. This year, we are looking at the is-
sues facing Christian medicine and healthcare in Sub-Saharan Af-
rica, and at the challenges, changes and future direction of
Christian healthcare initiatives in that continent.
Key speakers will include Dick Anderson of AIM on an overview of
the continent and Stan Rowland of Medical Ambassador?s Interna-
tional on programmes integrating community empowerment in health,
economic, social and spiritual development.
There will also be a range of seminars running throughout the day
on topics including:
* attrition of national health professionals [Dr Gabriel O Toma,
National President of the Christian Medical and Dental Associa-
tion (CMDA) of Nigeria]
* AIDS (Dr Patrick Dixon [ACET International] and Veronica Moss
[Mildmay International]
* Leprosy and community healthcare [Piet Both, The Leprosy Mis-
sion International]
* Christian hospitals in Africa [Dr Ann Fursdon, ex of Kapsowar
Hospital in Kenya]
* Short-term medical trips [Dr John Rennie]
* Healthcare in conflict zones [Dr David Carling]
A bookstall will also be available.
The overall aim of the day will be to bring out the key strategic
issues facing the continent, to highlight some of the key strate-
gies already in place, and to identify areas where Christian
agencies and churches still need to do some work on more strate-
gic responses within and between agencies.
If you are a Christian leader working in Africa or a health pro-
fessional with an interest in the continent, then this day is for
you.
Cost: £10 to include lunch. (The charge also covers the costs of
bringing in speakers from outside the UK, however the overall
costs of the day have been underwritten by MMA HealthServe).
