MRC Laboratories The Gambia
The MRC Laboratories, The Gambia is the Council's largest estab-
lishment conducting medical research in a developing country. The
Unit aims to improve the health of people in low-income countries
by excellence in multi-disciplinary research programmes.
MRC wish to recruit an experienced Research Clinician to work on
a project studying the immunology, virology, epidemiology and
clinical outcome of prevalent early life viral infections and
their interactions with vaccinations. Currently studies and tri-
als have been developed focused on cytomegalovirus, Epstein-Barr
virus and measles.
We seek someone with:
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Training in paediatrics
* A minimum of 3 years clinical experience with at least 1 year
in paediatrics
* Epidemiology training or relevant experience
* Previous experience working in multi-disciplinary teams
* Fluent written and spoken English
* Experience conducting a study according to the protocol
* Skilled in phlebotomy of young infants
* Ability to work with minimal supervision
* Ability to motivate, stimulate and guide a team
* Excellent communication skills
* Ability to discuss sensitive and confidential issues with par-
ticipants and communities
* Computer literacy
Although not essential, FWACP Part 1 and basic training in virol-
ogy would be an advantage.
The appointment is for one year in the first instance.
The minimum total salary package for the post will be 332,620
Dalasis per annum. For displaced staff the package will include
rent-free furnished accommodation, flights and shipment of per-
sonal effects.
