Applications are invited from medically qualified persons for a
2-year appointment as a Medical Officer.
The successful candidate will have to join day to day responsi-
bility with one other Medical Officer for patients in the 42-bed
ward at MRC Fajara under the overall supervision of the Clinical
Director. He/she will be required to review and admit patients
and initiate investigations and treatment. Adult and paediatric
cases are admitted and some previous experience in paediatrics
and general medicine is essential. He/she will also provide on-
call cover on a rota basis and occasionally provide clinical
cover in the Outpatients Department.
Although the successful candidate will be engaged primarily in
patient care, he/she will have the opportunity to participate in
the clinical research activities at the Unit. This is an ideal
post for someone who wishes to pursue a postgraduate course in
general medicine or paediatrics at the end of the appointment.
We seek someone with:
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Minimum of three years post-graduate experience in paediatrics
and general medicine.
* Excellent written and spoken English
* Good record keeping skills
* Basic computer literacy
* The ability to work well in a multi-disciplinary team
* Excellent communication skills
* Ability to deal sensitively with the patients
* Willingness to work flexi-time
* Demonstrated interest in clinical research into the diseases
of the tropics
* Basic understanding of medical audits
* Previous experience working as a Senior House Officer in a
university teaching hospital would be an advantage.
The salary will be in Occupational Group D3 at a minimum total
salary package of 332,620 Dalasis per annum. For displaced staff
the package will include a displacement allowance, furnished ac-
commodation, flights, contribution to school fees and other
benefits.
