Target groups/Participants:
* HIV/AIDS focal points working in agricultural and rural devel-
opment institutions (local, regional, national, supra-regional
level) and decision-makers / staff responsible for mainstreaming
the fight against HIV/AIDS in agricultural and rural development
* HIV/AIDS coordinators of development agencies (bi- and multi-
lateral, NGOs, foundations, private sector) working in the field
of rural development
Objectives:
* Learning about and exchanging experiences on mainstreaming of
the fight against HIV/AIDS in agricultural and rural development
* Further developing framework for HIV/AIDS mitigation strate-
gies in planning and implementation of rural development ap-
proaches
* Exposure to Institutionalisation of Mainstreaming measures on
different government levels
Contents:
* Mainstreaming strategies in rural development concepts and ap-
proaches
* Prevention and mitigation measures (such as labour extensive
crops, nutritious foods, energy- and labour saving technologies,
appropriate cash crops, etc.)
* Coordination and communication skills in dealing with sensi-
tive subjects
* Institutionalisation of ?Mainstreaming Concepts? on different
government levels
* Linkages: Role of Government and NGOs
* Monitoring approach for impacts of HIV/AIDS related activities
Methods:
* Background paper presentations and lectures
* Case studies presented by participants
* Role plays, guided discussions, work group meetings
* MRDP Mainstreaming approach:
* Methodological approach
* Joint planning session with HIV/AIDS Task Team of the Depart-
ment of Agriculture
* Joint planning session with HIV/AIDS Task Team Ehlanzeni Dis-
trict
* Presentations by government officials / MRDP on the adopted
mainstreaming process
* Reflections on case studies and field visit
Requirements for participation:
* Participants are requested to present case studies on imple-
mentation of their respective HIV/AIDS mainstreaming activities
(guidelines for presentations will be provided).
