Interactive Seminar on Development and Clinical Trials of Vac-
cines & Drugs for HIV/AIDS and Other Infectious Diseases

Gede Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to pre-
venting and combating HIV /AIDS through its various programs.
These include, amongst others, prevention and management ser-
vices, care and support for orphans and PLWHAs, as well as re-
search and training.
Gede AIDS & Infectious Disease Research Institute is the arm of
Gede Foundation which is involved in research, drug and vaccine
development programmes aimed at ensuring qualitative clinical
care for those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, TB, Malaria
and other diseases.
It is my privilege to inform you that Gede Foundation, through
its research arm, the Gede AIDS & Infectious Diseases Research
Institute (GAIDRI), will hold an Interactive Seminar on Develop-
ment and Clinical Trials of Vaccines & Drugs for HIV/AIDS and
Other Infectious Diseases on May 25, 2004 in Abuja, Nigeria.
The session will bring together renowned national and interna-
tional experts who will speak on the latest developments in
their fields. It will be a novel and rare opportunity for
healthcare professionals to interact and exchange knowledge with
these experts in order to encourage initiatives on local vac-
cine/ drug development and clinical trials.
We will invite clinical trial researchers, data mangers, biosta-
tisticians, clinicians, other healthcare professionals, NGOs,
and PLWHAs to participate in the session. Preliminary themes for
the seminar include:
* Early diagnosis of HIV infection
* Drug development from natural products HIV drug resistance
* Vaccine development
* Immunological assessment in clinical trials of drugs and vac-
cines
* Ethical issues in clinical trials
* Community participation in clinical trials
* Socio-economic considerations in the conduct of clinical tri-
als, and
* New strategies in the Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmis-
sion
