Project Leader Intermittent Preventive Treatment Project - Tanzania

The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine is seeking to
appoint a Project Leader for a study that will investigate the
impact of administering anti-malarial drugs at the time of vac-
cination on the health of Tanzanian infants.

This study will follow an earlier trial in Tanzania which demon-
strated the positive impact of intermittent preventive treatment
with sulphadoxine/pyrimethamine (Fansidar) on anaemia in in-
fants. The new trial will investigate the feasibility of using
alternatives to Fansidar in an area where there is a high level
of resistance to this drug. The study will be undertaken in the
context of a collaborative programme of research co-ordinated
through a consortium supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates
Foundation. The post-holder will be employed by the London
School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and will be based in
north-east Tanzania.

Applicants must be medically qualified and hold a higher quali-
fication in a relevant speciality. Experience of previous work
in a developing country is highly desirable. The Project Leader
will be appointed on a two year (extendable) contract as a
Clinical Research Fellow (salary range £26,760 to £46,420 per
annum inclusive, depending on skills and experience).
