Call for tender to establish an International Trials Registry

We would like to set up a comprehensive registry of clinical
trials of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. It serves as a
contribution of the EDCTP to expedite the search for effective
strategies for the prevention and treatment of three globally
important conditions. We intend this to be a valuable resource
for researchers, practitioners, policy makers, and consumers.

We are looking for an institution, organization or individual
capable to set up and maintain a clinical trial registry. This
registry will both capture completed trials and ensure the pro-
spective registration of all new trials relating to HIV/AIDS,
tuberculosis and malaria.

The establishment of an international registry of randomized
trials focusing on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria will serve
as an important global resource for researchers and decision
makers by
* providing a source of reliable information on areas and inter-
ventions being studied and by whom;
* providing information on what works and does not work in pre-
vention and treatment;
* identifying research gaps that should be addressed in future
trials;
* providing a "laboratory" for studying the scope, quality and
funding patterns of trials;
* keeping track of trials that will be undertaken in the future.

Setting up and maintaining the trial registry will comprise the
following specific activities:
1. Identification of trials
2. Coding of trials
3. Definition of trial and protocol characteristics
4. Procurement of trial reports (and translation as needed)
5. Establishing and maintaining the registry through regular
searching and updating

Applicants should define how they intend to conduct the activi-
ties described above and specify timeframe and costs for both
existing published and unpublished trials and planned/on-going
trials.

Tenders should be submitted electronically by and no later than
16 April 2004 to:
