International AIDS Candlelight Memorial "Candle Light Vigil"

Dear friends,

We are writing to invite you to take part in the International
AIDS Candlelight Memorial on Sunday, May 16, 2004. This year
marks the 21st anniversary of the world's largest annual commu-
nity based AIDS event. Locally we had coordinated the event for
the last two years. The International AIDS Candlelight Memorial
is designed to honor the memory of those lost to HIV/AIDS, show
support for those living with HIV/AIDS, raise awareness of
HIV/AIDS, and mobilize community involvement in the fight
against HIV/AIDS.

The Candle light Vigil is being observed as a joint venture of
Department of Health and Family Welfare (Government of Kerala),
Care and Share International, FIRM, TDNP+ and SWFK.

The observance of the event will take place on Sunday, May 16,
between 5 pm to 9 pm and the main candle light Vigil event will
take place at 7 pm at Gandhi Park, East Fort, Thiruvananthapu-
ram. We will light candles; hear remarks from people like you
listen to folk songs by Abhinaya Theatre group and Ghazal by
Shahabaz Aman among many other cultural programs. The event will
also serve as an opportunity for participants to learn about the
HIV/ AIDS services offered locally, and about the opportunities
they have to volunteer.

Hon. Health Minister of Kerala, Mr.Kadavoor Sivadasan,Film Star
Navya Nair and Charmila, Health Secretary, Additional Secretary
and two Additional directors have already confirmed to take part
in the function and we are also inviting MLA, a few more offi-
cials of Government of Kerala , Film stars and renowned social
workers to the event. Please accept this invitation and help us
to make the event a good success.

Additionally, we are also organizing a half-day session from 10
am to 1 pm on "TRAINING FOR MSMs ON ADVOCATING FOR THEIR HEALTH
ISSUES" by Dr.Venkideswaran Chakrapani,M.D,(Mac Arthur Fellow
and the former country Director,Solidarity and Action Against
The HIV Infection in India)
