Entertainment Education Issue No. 1
-----------------------------------
April 7th 2004
Project:
A Communication Strategy for the Promotion of Adolescent Health
This project aims to develop innovative communication strategies
for adolescents, with an emphasis on sexuality, gender, risk be-
haviors, violence, early marriage and pregnancy. Manish will
collaborate with organizations in the Foundation?s priority
states of Gujarat and Rajasthan and other states like U.P., M.P,
Bihar, Maharashtra, Chattisgarh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, West
Bengal, Jharkhand and Uttaranchal (all in India) to train 60
master trainers on communications strategies for young people?s
sexual and reproductive health and rights.
He has also proposed wider dissemination of communications mate-
rials through an Edutainment Resource Center that he will estab-
lish in Lucknow. By developing and incorporating innovative
techniques such as games and magic tricks into lesson plans,
Manish?s goal is to develop materials that are easily accessi-
ble, interactive and fun and draws the attention of young people
from urban as well as rural areas. This population of young peo-
ple is hard to reach, especially on reproductive health topics.
The games and magic allow Manish a unique platform to interact
with young people. Each game and magic trick will be accompanied
by reproductive health message. It is expected that the project
will lead to the development of age-appropriate and culturally
sensitive materials for young people from urban and rural areas
and a cadre of trainers who can effectively deliver sexual and
reproductive health education. In the initial phase of the pro-
ject, Manish will attend training programs on communications de-
velopment and on sexual and reproductive health issues.
