MSc. or Postdoctoral Trainees - Antimalarial Drug Screening
-----------------------------------------------------------

Source: tdr-scientists@who.int

Application deadline: 30 June 2004

The Swiss Tropical Institute (STI - see below) is collaborating
with the Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV - see below) on a
number of projects focused on the discovery of new antimalarial
drugs. Funding from MMV has resulted in the expansion of the an-
timalarial drug screening efforts at STI.

Both institutions encourage the increased participation of
qualified scientists from malaria-endemic countries, especially
Africa, in the ongoing drug screening efforts. It is hoped that
this will help build capacity and transfer technology in this
critical area of antimalarial drug discovery.

We are looking for a talented scientist from a malaria-endemic
country, especially Africa, to train and contribute to our drug
screening efforts. The ideal candidate should have a higher de-
gree, preferably MSc. or PhD, in a relevant scientific field.
Experience with malaria research or other parasitic diseases is
an asset.

Candidates that have an affiliation with established institu-
tions or parasitology screening centers in Africa are strongly
encouraged to apply. The position is available for one year in
the first instance and can be renewed for a second year.

Closing date for receipt of application is June 30, 2004

Interested applicants should send their application with CV to:

has a state of the art facility for in vitro and in vivo antima-
larial and antitrypanosomal drug screening. It currently has 10
staff working on drug discovery strongly supported by MMV and
TDR/WHO. It is hosting many trainees and students from develop-
ing countries and maintains research collaborations with centers
in disease endemic countries. For further information consult:

About MMV:

MMV is a nonprofit foundation dedicated to reducing the burden
of malaria in disease endemic countries by discovering, develop-
ing and delivering new affordable antimalarials through effec-
tive public-private partnership. After four years of operation,
MMV is managing the largest portfolio of malaria research in
history with 21 projects in different stages of drug research
and development. For further information please consult:
