RFI: Alternative ophthalmoscopy

We are investigating the use of ophthalmoscopes by optometrists
in Tanzania. Is anybody aware of an alternative means/technique
that optometrists use/can use to examine the posterior segment
of the eye without an ophthalmoscope?
