Dear Friends,

I recently returned from Niger, West Africa shooting a documen-
tary on safe motherhood (specifically obstetric fistula.) Niger
is a country I knew very little about until I planned to shoot
there but it ended up being the most appropriate place to shoot
a film on women, and a place I left learning a lot about the re-
ality of the struggles associated with being a mother in such a
desperately poor country (the second poorest in the world.)

As the first US production on the issue of fistula, the film and
the project has garnered a lot of attention by the international
community and others who are fighting to protect women?s repro-
ductive rights both here and overseas. (If you?ve been following
the status of women?s health in Africa under the Bush Admini-
stration, you know what I?m talking about.)

We screened a clip of the film yesterday at the Global Health
Council and had tremendous feedback. A lobbyist in DC who we
have been working with is planning a screening for both the
House and Senate in Sept/Oct to help influence appropriation of
funding for women?s health programs in the developing world for
2005. So, it's gearing up to be quite an important project for
this year and so we are calling on friends/colleagues to help.

If you are in NYC on June 24th or have friends who might be
and are interested - please save the date for our launch which
will be at the Zenergy Skyloft (36th and 10th Ave) at 7pm. It?s
not a fundraiser, so to speak, and we won?t be hitting you up
for big money but we do need your ideas and contacts. We will
have a great night of cocktails, music, good people and an intro
to what the project/film is about.

Our website is http://www.lovelaborloss.com. We are currently in
the process of updating it which will include a clip and produc-
tion stills by the end of the weekend. Hope to see you!
