Locations: Botswana, Senegal and Kenya

The International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF) is leading a
multi-year project to enhance the quality and consistency of me-
dia coverage on HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria in Africa. The second
stage of the project consists of working directly with six Cen-
tres of Excellence (CofEs). The Centres of Excellence will be
located in Botswana, Senegal and Kenya.

The project, known as Maisha Yetu (Swahili for Our Lives), seeks
to provide technical support and expertise to two media houses,
designated as Centres of Excellence, in each country. A local
trainer will be assigned to collaborate with the two CofE to
promote quality reporting of HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria through
in-house capacity development based on identified needs. This
pilot project will be carefully documented in order to allow the
findings of the project to be disseminated across Africa.

The IWMF therefore seeks to recruit three (3) local trainers who
are based in Botswana, Senegal and Kenya to drive the Maisha
Yetu campaign in (i.e., one trainer in each country).

Candidates must possess the following skills and capabilities:

a) Bachelor's degree;
b) Demonstrated working knowledge of, experience in (at least
five years) and understanding of HIV/AIDS and general public
health issues;
c) Experience working as a journalist, or with journalists; un-
derstanding of the newspaper and radio business;
d) Excellent participatory training and leadership skills;
e) Excellent writing and cross-cultural communication skills
f) Ability to take initiative, be creative and be assertive;
g) Ability to network effectively, share information, and con-
nect media houses with other resources;
h) Ability to work effectively without supervision, but to com-
municate effectively and consistently with supervisor.

This is a part-time consultancy that will begin in September
2004 and last six to eight months. Successful candidates must be
willing to travel to Nairobi, Kenya during the week of 6 Septem-
