ous Studies

Join National Scientific Network Investigating Antibiotic Resis-
tance (ABR) in Commensal Organisms: Request for New Research
Proposals and Related Data from Previous Studies

Reservoirs of Antibiotic Resistance Network (ROAR), funded by
the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases
(NIAID) and coordinated by the Alliance for the Prudent Use of
Antibiotics (APUA), is calling for research proposals to address
the hypothesis that commensal organisms serve as reservoirs for
the emergence and proliferation of antibiotic resistance genes
in disease-associated bacteria. Proposed studies should produce
sufficient data to contribute to population of a database for
quantitative assessment of the relationship between resistance
in commensals and resistance in human pathogens. Study awards
are up to US$ 60,000 for 1 year. Researchers with related data
from previous studies are also encouraged to join by contribut-
ing to the database.
