Herewith we would like to draw your attention to the website of
Novib/Oxfam Netherlands, called "Rights and Security for Women,
Stop Gender based Violence Worldwide!", -launched this year- to
be found on http://gender.novib.nl
For Novib, rights and security for women is one of its core
themes. The attention within this theme is on gender based vio-
lence. Fighting against gender based violence has already been
part of Novib's work for a number of years. As far as Novib is
concerned, gender-based violence is a human rights and develop-
ment issue. Since OI adopted a rights based approach, the fight
for rights and security of women has been closely linked to in-
ternational treaties and conventions that guarantee women's
freedom from all kinds of violence and discrimination. While
stressing the issue as a development issue, Novib recognises the
effects and impact of gender-based violence on various develop-
ment (social, economic, democratic, political) goals that have
been set. This makes the fight for security and rights for women
an integral struggle, which should be taken into account in all
areas of work.
On the website, you will find lots of interesting publications
on different themes within the issue of gender-based violence,
as well as tools in the form of manuals, and good practices. You
will also find a forum in which you can participate by reacting
on statements that are regularly posted or by discussing in
online two-month-debates on a certain topic.
