RFI: Childbirth Education

Dear All,

My interest is on childbirth education. Is it possible to get me
some information on this? I would like to develop modules for
health care providers (perinatal care providers) as well as cli-
ents and their families. My focus will be on materials relevant
for our communities, the majority of which have no access to
computers and have low standards of education. I feel that the
material we have is not completely relevant to our situation in
South Africa, therefore I would like to build something more ap-
propriate and suitable for our environment.

My major challenge is to influence a mind shift from what has
been traditionally taught to midwives and stimulate efficient
and effective partnership between midwives and their clients,
something which is still lacking in many parts of our country.
It is my belief that clients can be able to contribute and par-
ticipate meaningfully when we tap on their child birth experi-
ences, something which has not been happening for a long, long
time. I hope you will be able to help me and/or refer me to
relevant people.
