FAAN HIV/AIDS Awareness Campaign
--------------------------------

Dear Sir,

We wish to introduce to you Federal Airports Authority of Nige-
ria-HIV/AIDS Awareness Club that has been in existence with the
sole aim of exposing the new phase of HIV/AIDS through seminars,
conferences, distribution of handbills and stickers (bearing the
up to date statistics of HIV/AIDS infection of various countries
and ways out) to the travellers, airport users and aviation
staff.

We are sending this letter to you as a means of contributing our
quota to your eventual success.

Since inception, we have been involved in the prevention of
Mother-to-Child-Transmission of HIV-1 through public awareness,
enlightenment and the purchase of anti-retroviral drugs( Nevi-
rapine) from notable pharmaceutical companies (which could be
useful in interrupting HIV-1 transmission during the intrapartum
and postpartum periods).

Recent research findings have revealed that every minute, one
Nigerian in the economically viable age bracket, between 15-
49years, is infected with the HIV virus.

In the world, recent statistics have shown that Africa has about
25 million people infected. Those infected include parents who
have created more orphans. The orphaned children, majority of
whom are also HIV positive, now swell the number of Are Boys
across the country while the girls take to prostitution and in
the process increase the spread of the dreaded disease nation-
wide.

The Federal Ministry of Health has confirmed that at 5.8% na-
tional indemnity rate, Nigeria has crossed the alarming HIV/AIDS
threshold barrier and is now approaching the explosive phase of
the pandemic which effect is certain to threaten our national
security, if stakeholders in the Nigerian economy fail to con-
tribute their own quota to the national/international coalition
against the rampaging disease.

The question at this point is how did HIV/AIDS come into this
country Nigeria? Through visitors of course, either by air, sea
or land, but most of the time by air, that is why we are concen-
trating on the International Airports in our country to create
awareness to suit the international standard. To date, some 5
million Nigerians have been infected with this virus.

It is against the backdrop of these realities that our club is
writing you to identify with you, please send your name ,phone
number ,e-mail address , mailing address, newsletters if any and
the best way to contact you so as to send to you our recent
handbills/literature.

Thanks for your co-operation.

Best regards,
Mr. Ben K. Nnabue
