RFI: salaries and pre-service training costs (2)
------------------------------------------------
Dear Eric,
Greetings. I appreciate your initiative to have more people
trained & recruited into the medical profession in Africa. I am
not discouraging you but you should put more emphasis on remu-
neration and fringe benefits of the medical practitioners. Afri-
can states would not be having such deficiencies in the medical
profession but the biggest problem has been remuneration.
Many Doctors have been trained and left their countries for
greener pastures e.g. US, UK, Canada, Australia, China etc.
Quoting the President of Uganda His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta
Museveni on one public occasion in his speech he decried the
rate at which the government was loosing a lot of money on
training Doctors who eventually run away for greener pastures
before even they serve their own country. Personally, I have
friend Doctors who have left this country Uganda in the name of
seeking further training and they have since failed to return to
Uganda.
