Disseminating science to Africa's lay audience

In an effort to make science and medical research studies in Af-
rica more available and better understood by people of the re-
gion, Datelinehealth Africa has initiated a project aimed at
producing feature articles in non-technical language for lay
readers from research reports published in peer-reviewed inter-
national scientific journals.

An early example of this effort is featured below in a lay arti-
cle by a DLHA Volunteer and Freelance writer, Dr. Annie Wesley
of Canada, describing the effect that consumption of afla-
toxin­contaminated maize has on the growth of children in Benin,
West Africa.

Please review the report and feedback with your comments for
purposes of improvement of this effort. List members with sci-
ence-based writing skills wishing to contribute to this effort
