'Uganda Has Highest Number of Orphans' (2)
------------------------------------------
Dear Forum,
Greetings to you all. I am working with Orphans in Uganda, I to-
tally disagree with Mr. Juluis Bukenya's statement that Uganda
had the highest number of Orphans in Africa. According to the
Children on the Brink 2002 joint report on Orphans compiled by
UNICEF, UNAIDS & USAID, it was estimated that by 2005 Uganda
would have 790,000 AIDS Orphans and had the same report had es-
timates of other countries that would have higher occurrences
than Uganda, this includes the following:-
a. Tanzania - 1,090,000
b. Zimbabwe - 1,140,000
c. South Africa - 1,328,000
d. Nigeria - 1,857,000
e. Kenya - 1,265,000
f. Ethiopia - 1,563,000
g. DR-Congo - 1,139,000
So this cannot be true that Uganda has the highest rate of AIDS
Orphans in Africa.
