IT Support & Data Manager (MRC BASSE)

MRC Laboratories, The Gambia is the Council's largest establish-
ment conducting medical research in a developing country. The
Unit aims to improve the health of people in low-income coun-
tries by excellence in multi-disciplinary research programmes.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for
a 3-year appointment as IT Support & Data Manager. You will pro-
vide assistance in all areas of computing including Client Sup-
port, Networking, Servers, Database Administration etc at our
Field Station at Basse, 380 kilometres from the coast. In addi-
tion, you will operate as the Data Manager for the large study
trials undertaken at Basse, will handle Helpdesk calls and help
with the maintenance and development of the PC's, printers and
peripheral devices, Network (LAN) and server infrastructure

We seek someone with:

* A degree in computing or a scientific/mathematical subject
(with a substantial computing component) or a post-secondary
computing qualification, plus 3 years computing work experience.

* A minimum of three years work experience in the computing in-
dustry/data management (two of which must be postgraduate).

* Excellent Server/Network & Client Hardware knowledge & experi-
ence

* Good knowledge of Local Area Networks & Wide Area Networks, MS
Windows 2000 Server, MS Exchange2000 and Server Administration

* Excellent SQL Server 2000 administration skills

* Good knowledge and experience of developing SQL Server 2000
databases - especially stored procedures and triggers

* Proven ability to manage staff

* Excellent problem solving abilities

* Excellent written and spoken English

* Willingness to travel to other MRC field stations around The
Gambia.

* Willingness to be on call out of office hours.

Although not essential, previous experience of working in the
field of medical research, experience of data management in
clinical studies and knowledge of GCP and its implications in
clinical studies would be an advantage.

The total salary package, which is in Occupational Group D3,
will be approximately 350,000 Dalasis per annum. For displaced
staff the package will include displacement allowances, rent
free furnished accommodation, flights and other benefits.
