Has Uganda become Abstinence-only? (2)
--------------------------------------

Well, Dr. Green misrepresents the data on abstinence-only pro-
grams and the US policies on HIV prevention. There is little
scientific evidence to support the use of abstinence as a sole
approach to STD/HIV prevention, yet the current US Administra-
tion has pushed abstinence-only programming both at home and
abroad to the detriment of more comprehensive approaches. In ad-
dition, the US government continues to undermine the public
faith in condoms by distorting the scientific evidence that con-
doms are a key tool in prevention STD/HIV infection.

The US government also has harassed programs that talk frankly
about sex and drug use, most notably the STOP AIDS Project in
San Francisco, in an attempt to intimidate those who don't fol-
low the just-say-no approach to HIV prevention or drug use. Dr.
Green's statements have been refuted by hundreds of researchers
around the world, and by the evidence of many studies and pro-
grams on the ground. He's an ideologue masquerading as a scien-
tist - spreading a gospel that will spread AIDS.
