Malaria Control in Africa
-------------------------

Perhaps someone out there could tell me why the problem of ma-
laria in Africa is not being addressed in a rational manner. The
people in the southern USA would certainly never accept a pro-
gram of bed nets and treatment of disease after contracting it.
I cite the uproar over West Nile Virus and the mosquito control
programs being expanded to combat it. This disease is nowhere
nearly as devastating as malaria, but the public health offi-
cials recognize that the control of mosquito borne disease is
all but impossible without controlling the mosquito.

It appears that properly conducted mosquito control projects in
Sub-Sahara Africa would have a positive impact on the problem,
in much the same manner they have had in the USA. Most people
don't realize it, but malaria was once a serious problem in the
US and eliminated by aggressive mosquito control programs.
