US$ 5.1 Billion Would Save 6 Million Children (3)
-------------------------------------------------
In the recent years the money for child survival has been run-
ning out and affecting various programs in many countries. The
JHU paper highlighted the need and tried to come up with some
figures for policy makers. Each country and each program has to
come up with their own figure. It would have been good if the
methodology can be standardized for use by others. Nutrition
folks used 'PROFILE' as an advocacy tool in many countries to
come up with some dollar figure to convince policy makers. Simi-
larly, immunization folks used Dollar amount required for fully
immunized child or number of deaths averted.
I am not sure that with USD 875 some one can jump and cross the
poverty line. Peter's math sounds simple but poverty alleviation
in resource poor settings is not that simple.
Whatever be the math the point here is to keep investing on
child health and not get distracted.
