UN Agencies Welcome New US Initiative to Fight Malaria (2)
----------------------------------------------------------

Dear All,

On reading the post by Claudio, I am tempted to revisit the DDT
question/discussion. I remember that someone said that a group
in the US is able to clear malaria parasites at US$ 0.50 (not
certain about the cost) per acre. Will this money go to that
group?

So, is the new way of solving the malaria problem increasing
funds? The previous funds given to attack the malaria problem,
how have they been used? Again, will most of the funds will go
to developing the drugs, nets etc.? How many insecticide treated
nets do they actually buy? How many lives have actually been
saved by use of these methods?

While this is happening, Malaria is becoming resistant to the
current drugs and continuing to kill. It does not know if more
money has been allocated to destroy it. So, are we solving the
problem or just whitewashing our consciences till some one hits
us again with more statistics or creating more jobs?
