UN Agencies Welcome New US Initiative to Fight Malaria (4)
----------------------------------------------------------

Hello All,

It seems that the focus on the malaria fight is reverting to bed
nets and treating the disease once contracted. These strategies
obviously don't work. Bed nets are not an efficient tool for
people that live outside. I cite the Centers for Disease Con-
trol's recommendations that travellers from the US try to re-
frain from going outside after dark when in a malaria endemic
country.

The only methods that have ever controlled malaria are aimed at
control of the anopheles mosquito. This was proven over 60 years
ago in the US when malaria was eradicated. The same can be said
about northern Australia.

Why is there such resistance to the application of these method-
ologies in Tropical Africa?
