Study on adjunctive steroids in pericardial TB (3)
--------------------------------------------------
Dear Shey,
We have discussed the study with my colleagues and agreed that
we can collaborate. We are research scientists from the National
Institute for Medical Research, Muhimbili Research Station in
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Our major focus of research is on
TB/HIV co-infection and we are in good collaboration with the
National TB control program and Muhimbili National Hospital
(where we are located).
Due to the burden of TB in Dar es Salaam being 25% of all cases
(64,665) notified in 2003 we think, it will be a suitable study
site. A total of 14.55% of extra pulmonary TB cases were noti-
fied in 2003. Although we have not established statistics for TB
pericarditis, it can be presumed that it might have contributed
to a good number of extra pulmonary TB cases.
Therefore, the criteria of recruiting 5 adults per day can be
met by involving all the TB clinics in Dar es Salaam.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Rugola Mtandu, MD
NB: This mail was supposed to precede that of Mfinanga who is my
senior colleague if it were not for network problems.
