Second National Abstinence Leadership Workshop

Dear Colleagues,

Mainstreaming Abstinence/Fidelity Strategy in HIV Prevention in
Nigeria

Nigeria's HIV/AIDS Policy and the recently reviewed National
Strategic Framework affirm that: "Abstinence and mutual fidelity
will be promoted as the best protection against HIV/AIDS". This
second National Abstinence Leadership Training Workshop is de-
signed to advance abstinence/fidelity lifestyle onto the na-
tional HIV/AIDS prevention agenda in Nigeria. It will also equip
advocates with skills to widen and deepen the promotion of ab-
stinence/fidelity strategy across Nigeria. The big event is be-
ing hosted by the Nigeria Abstinence Coalition uniting over 66
CSOs across Nigeria.

Leadership Workshop Objectives:

1. To present abstinence/fidelity strategy as a contextually re-
alistic approach to HIV/AIDS control efforts in Nigeria.

2. To proffer innovative tactics of promoting absti-
nence/fidelity message based on Nigeria's socio-cultural val-
ues/ethos.

3. Empower abstinence/fidelity advocates with relevant skills to
promote abstinence/fidelity lifestyle in communities.

4. To launch the "Project 1,000,000 Abstinence Advocates" pro-
gramme in Nigeria.

Topics:
1. Overview of abstinence / fidelity lifestyle across cultures:
Nigeria as a case study.

2. Communicating abstinence/fidelity messages for behavioural
change

"No Apology" Abstinence Curriculum as training guide
