Dear colleagues,

I am pleased to inform you about a recent addition to the inter-

TELEMEDICINE IN MAURITIUS

Clinique du Nord at Tombeau Bay in Mauritius became the first
healthcare setup in the private sector (in Mauritius) to launch
its telemedicine linkage.

Through this telemedicine linkage between these two countries of
similar ethnicity, Mauritian patients shall be able to reap the
benefits of Telecardiology and Teleradiology services from the
doctors at Manipal Hospital in Bangalore, India.

Manipal Hospital in India is recognized by the Government of
Mauritius, as its tertiary care referral hospital. Besides
adults, neonates too are sent to Manipal for treatment and sur-
geries. With this telemedicine linkage the patients who have
been treated at Manipal shall be able to get easy, cheaper and
quicker follow up advice from their doctors in Bangalore. This
application of ICT in healthcare shall also enable others to get
second opinion on their diagnosis. The telemedicine set up at
Clinique du Nord also includes the facility of video conferenc-
ing.

We started working on this project in November 2004, eventually,
the telemedicine facility at Clinique du Nord was launched on
the 18th of August, 2005 in the presence of Minister of Health
and Quality of Life; Minister of Information Technology and Com-
munication; Indian High Commissioner and others.
