Vacancy: Senior Policy Advisor, COMPASS Project Abuja

This project position is focused on reproductive health, child
survival and basic education.

The Futures Group is seeking a local Senior Policy Advisor to
work on the COMPASS Project located in Abuja, Nigeria to help
direct the policy and enabling environment activities within a
dynamic and integrated health and education project. COMPASS op-
erates in five states and more than 50 LGAs. Primary responsi-
bilities for the Senior Policy Advisor include:

* Prioritization, design and implementation of all COMPASS ac-
tivities related to strengthening the enabling environment for
social sector programmes, policies and plans. These activities
complement the COMPASS led interventions in reproductive health,
child survival and basic education.

* Ensure effective coordination within the COMPASS programme and
a clear complement of the policy activities along side the sec-
toral interventions and linkages to other relevant projects and
development initiatives in Nigeria.

* Develop strategies to ensure the state and LGA interpretation
and effective translation (establishment of state and LGA poli-
cies and legislation where appropriate) of national policies and
plans into practical implementation plans and strategies at the
state and local levels.

* Work as a teammate with other COMPASS advisors and staff in
developing and strengthening linkages between policy makers at
the state and LGA levels and civil society/community groups.

* Develop, support and carryout policy analyses, awareness and
advocacy strategies to support the achievement of COMPASS stra-
tegic objectives and intermediate results.

Ideal candidate will be a Nigerian national, be an advanced de-
gree holder, and have experience in policy analysis in the so-
cial sectors (specifically, reproductive and child health and
education). Experience with the development of advocacy strate-
gies and applied policy analysis, and excellent written and ver-
bal communication skills are desirable.

Position is based in Abuja with occasional travel to the five
states where the COMPASS Project operates. This is a fulltime
position with a one year probationary period, salary and allow-
ances will be competitive based on USAID/Nigeria guidelines.
