Family Planning Reduces Abortion Rate in Romania

According to the United States Department of State, President
George W. Bush has stated that "one of the best ways to prevent
abortion is by providing quality voluntary family planning ser-
vices." PSI/Romania's "Among Us Women" initiative is helping the
Romanian government to reduce the rate of abortions by providing
voluntary family planning and reproductive health education to
Romanian women of reproductive age. Research has shown that not
only has the total abortion rate decreased since the implementa-
tion of Among Us Women, but also that it is first time since the
fall of Communism that Romanian women have more live births than
abortions. This initiative is funded by USAID.

PSI/AIDSMark Keeping Youth Safe from Harm in Zimbabwe

As the first country to launch the Regional Delayed Debut mass
media campaign in April 2005, Zimbabwe is once again leading the
way by implementing the interpersonal communication (IPC) compo-
nent of the Delayed Debut campaign and using religious leaders
as program facilitators. Zimbabwe is only a starting point for
the "Safe from Harm" program. Whether it's with religious lead-
ers, peer educators, or other community facilitators, AIDSMark
will work with all interested PSI countries to adapt the program
to their specific cultural context.
