Dear Friends,

Building Schools of Public Health:
There are 737 medical schools world wide. There are 70 Schools
of public health. Some of us think that this should be reversed.
Dr Wen Ta-Chiu a former student of mine in Taiwan had a bril-
liant idea, why don?t we work together to push the establishment
of Schools of Public Health? It would make sense that every
country having a medical school should also have a school of
public health. Our group represents a formidable force for dou-
bling the number of schools of public health by the year 2015.
Wen suggested that we could be internal and external advocates
for building of schools say in Pakistan, Bolivia or Uzbekistan.

We first need to identify countries that you think need schools
of public health, or more schools of public health. Then we need
discuss how we as a group can help increase the global capacity
of public health in these countries.

Please write to me (mailto:ronaldlaporte@gmail.com) to suggest
countries where local and internationally we could promote the
building of schools of public health. Also, we most appreciate
you input as to how national and global scientists can promote
this effort.

Onward to Jan. 1
Eugene just reported to me that we now have cracked the 2,400
barrier and outstanding lectures keep pouring into the Super-
course. If you have a few extra outstanding lectures sitting on
your computer, would you mind donating these to the world so
that we can reach world record heights of 2,500 by Jan. 1, 2006.
We can do it!!

PowerPoint!! IS HERE!!
Eugene did a wonderful job. Our Supercourse lectures are now
available in PowerPoint format. Now you will be able to down
load our lectures and use them directly in PowerPoint.

To do this is simple, first you decided what lecture you want.
For example you want to use slides form Janice Price?s excellent
lecture on HIV clinical trials. You would go to the lecture to
find it?s number:
http://www.pitt.edu/~super1/lecture/lec10021/index.htm

This lecture is number 10021. You then go to the front page at:
http://www.pitt.edu/~super1

and click into:
Supercourse Lectures Available in Power Point

Here is a listing of all the lectures, and you can click onto
?10021? to down load the lecture.

We wish to thank our Graduate School of Public Health at the
University of Pittsburgh for making the space available. Please
enjoy our lectures in PowerPoint.

We will continue to make lectures available in the Supercourse
format as still many countries do not have the bandwidth neces-
sary for PowerPoint as the presentations now are quite big.

Asia Pacific Health Forum:
I just returned from the 37th Asia Pacific Health Forum in Tai-
wan. It was a fantastic meeting. This group represents over 50
schools of public health throughout the world. It is most im-
pressive in term of the outstanding group of scientists, from
throughout Asia and else where. I asked at the beginning of my
talk how many people had heard and used the supercourse. Over
50% did, which was quite amazing and again shows the branding of
our program and the market share which is likely higher than
most other public health programs.

I met with an old friend, 75 year old Professor Wu. He is a
brilliant scientist, and one of the first global leaders who be-
lieved in the Supercourse. I honour and respect him very much.
He was wonder in giving me some straight advice. He indicated
that my newsletters often are difficult to understand because of
idioms I use. I apologize, and would value your thoughts as to
how to improve the Supercourse.
