The significance of traditional medicines is recognised by WHO
where there is a whole department devoted to the study and pro-
motion of traditional medicines concepts.

Countries are provided with support to study their own situa-
tions and develop means to integrate use into the health care
systems where appropriate. WHO's most recent Annual Report from
the Essential Drugs and Medicines section showed the increase in
countries developing regulation to cover traditional medicines
and their integration into health care systems.
