Dear Leela,

Thanks for your post. This brings us to the point that we should
encourage local production rather than global trade, except
where it is not locally available.

Thanks to WTO, we have more apples and pears coming from USA and
China into India with attractive packing, so much so, the local
apples are becoming a rare commodity and would get phased out.

Just imagine the fate of these people growing apples. They start
migrating to other fruits / crops and sometimes for quick money
resort to opium or other drug cultivation!!

What we need to create is a balanced and equitable growth of lo-
cal and global products, communities and economies.
