Dear Friends,
It has been a wonderful year working with all of you. We have
people from China, Peru, Cambodia, Kazakhstan, Jordan, Austra-
lia, Israel, and over 100 other countries working together irre-
spective of our religion, our color, our gender, our age, and
our favorite football teams. Pretty cool stuff.
I have asked some of you to send to us quotes about friendship
and health. We were sent beautiful thoughts. It is a small gift
from some of us to all of you, in the spirit of love and friend-
ship.
Russian:
?Good brotherhood is the best wealth?
?Don't have a hundred rubles, but have a hundred friends?
Indian:
"Unity is strength"
French:
"Prevention is better than cure"
Arabic:
?He who has health has hope; and he who has hope, has every-
thing?
"Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born
until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new
world is born." Nin
"Life without a friend is death without a witness." Benge
A true friendship is like sound health, the value of it is sel-
dom known until lost.
Chinese Proverb
"Don't walk in front of me, I may not follow. Don't walk behind
me, I may not lead. Walk beside me and be my friend." -- Camus
"The road to a friend's house is never long" --Danish proverb
?Great deeds are usually wrought at great risks" Greek
Hebrew:
?To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose
under the heaven?
?Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that ob-
taineth understanding?
Medicine is a science from which one learns the states of the
human body with respect to what is healthy and what is not, in
order to preserve good health when it exists and restore it when
it is lacking

Friendship and the sharing of knowledge are the best presents.
We all have the unique privilege where we can help change the
world by working together. Cool stuff. We want 2006 to be the
best year we have ever been. Please send to me any comments to

Onward to Schools of Global Health!!!
Nostalgia: We owe so much to so many people. When the Super-
course started in 1997 no idea if scholars would share their
lectures with us; it had never been done. We owe much to Tom
Jefferson from the UK, Varlava Smitkova from the Czech republic,
Michline Beaudry from Canada, Ralph Cordell from CDC and Hum-
berto Guerra from Peru. These were the first 5 people who sent a
lecture. The lectures were diverse, ranging from virtual librar-
ies to Malaria, the senders were all over the map, the lectures
were pearls of wisdom. When we received these we knew it would
work. We in Pittsburgh owe them so much as they took a chance
with the Supercourse, and were the first. Since then 2,000 other
lectures have come in. I still remember to this day Tom Jeffer-
son from the UK sending the first lecture. It was an honor to be
in-trusted with these outstanding lectures which showed us that
we in global health could share our knowledge world wide.
Thanks, Tom, Varlava, Michline, Ralph, Humberto and 1000 other
faculty.
