AFRO-NETS is about malaria (26)
-------------------------------
While AFRO-NETS may not be about malaria specifically, malaria
is undoubtedly the biggest single health problem on the African
continent. Especially in tropical West Africa. WHO reports more
than 25,000 cases per 100,000 population in Liberia and Guinea
per year. This is probably the highest incidence in the world.
There can be no excuse for this situation to continue. The tech-
nologies for control of this disease are well known and have
been in practice for decades in the developed world. The primary
reasons for the lack of mosquito/malaria control programs in Af-
rica is the intervention by badly misguided environmental wackos
that refuse to endorse the use of insecticides in mosquito con-
trol. These people have infiltrated the WHO, USAID and many
other donor organizations.
Anybody opposing the use of modern technologies to control ma-
laria should be required to move their family to a malaria en-
demic area and live on the local economy for one year. I'll bet
their attitude would change dramatically.
