Dientamoeba fragilis and dientamoebiasis

The Authors present history and taxonomy of Dientamoeba fragi-
lis. The main features and findings of this protozoon are re-
lated. Clinical aspects of dientamoebiasis are showed. Epidemi-
ological and general aspects are reported. The Authors emphasize
diagnostic items for identifications of D. fragilis, stressing
the importance of permanent stain, Giemsa particularly, and pre-
sent pictures of this flagellate
